About YuTU
What is YuTU?
YuTU is a video-first social marketplace that helps students, young people, and local communities connect in real life. By sharing skills, time, stuff, and social plans, YuTU turns online posts into genuine friendships and stronger local communities.
What are Social Circles?
Social Circles are local, interest-based micro-communities inside YuTU. Each Circle can be public (anyone can join) or private (people must request or be invited). Every post must belong to at least one Circle. You can join as many Circles as you like or create your own.
Your Account & Login Help
Can I change my username or email address?

I forgot my password — what do I do?
Tap Forgot Password’ on the login screen or in Settings. We will email you a secure link to reset it. If you do not receive the email, check your spam folder or contact Support.
Creating & Managing Posts
What kinds of posts can I create?
There are four types of posts:
-
Sharing Social: Share gigs, events, meetups, or tips to help people connect and have fun.
-
Sharing Skill: Post videos showing your skills — others can bid for your help or lessons.
-
Sharing Time: Offer free time to help someone, ask for help yourself, or volunteer locally.
-
Sharing Stuff: List clothes, books, tickets, or tech for local swaps or sales.
Note: Marketplace features (bidding, offers, payments) apply to Skill and Stuff posts — not Social and Time posts.
How do I create a post?
-
Tap the + button in the app.
-
Pick a category: Social, Skill, Time, or Stuff.
-
Tap Share Yours.
-
Record or upload a video.
-
Fill in your description and details. For Marketplace posts (Skill, Time, Stuff) you must include:
-
Requested Price (visible to others)
-
Minimum Price (for Offering posts, hidden from others)
-
Maximum Price (for Asking posts, hidden from others)
-
-
Assign the post to at least one Circle.
-
You can choose to broadcast your post to reach the whole university instead of just your community.
-
Tap Submit.
Tip: Price your listing carefully — YuTU deducts a 12.5% listing fee from your final sale price before funds go into your wallet.
How do I edit or delete a post?
Go to your profile gallery. Tap the three dots next to your post and choose Edit or Delete.
Are there rules for what I can post?
Yes — to keep YuTU safe and positive, you must follow our Community Guidelines:
-
No illegal goods or services
-
No explicit or adult content
-
No harassment, hate speech, or bullying
-
No spam or misleading posts
YuTU may remove posts that break these rules. Repeated misuse can lead to account suspension. Always check the full Community Guidelines in the app or on our website.
Marketplace, Offers & Wallet
How do Asking and Offering posts work?
-
Offering posts: Sellers list skills, time, or items they are offering — buyers can make offers.
-
Asking posts: Buyers post what they are looking for — sellers can bid to provide it.
Multiple offers and bids are encouraged — they appear in the seller’s Offer Graph and inbox. Sellers can accept or decline any offer. Buyers can make multiple offers on different posts.
Example: A buyer asks for guitar lessons. Sellers place bids with their prices — the buyer chooses who to book.
How does the offers and payments process work?
YuTU keeps payments safe using escrow through MANGOPAY:
-
When a seller accepts an offer, the buyer must manually pay by card to place the money in escrow.
-
Accepting an offer does not automatically charge the buyer — payment is separate.
-
After payment, when the job or exchange is done, the buyer taps Mark Job as Completed in the app.
-
This unlocks the Release Funds to Seller button — the buyer clicks it to send money from escrow to the seller’s wallet.
-
If the buyer does not release the funds manually, YuTU automatically releases the payment seven days after marking the job complete.
-
Either party can cancel the offer before marking the job complete — if they do, escrowed funds are automatically refunded to the buyer’s card.
-
Refunds after funds have been released are possible but are at the seller’s discretion.
Do I need a YuTU Wallet?
Yes — you need a Wallet to buy, sell, or bid on Marketplace posts (Skill, Time, Stuff). Your Wallet securely holds your earnings and payments through MANGOPAY.
-
You can view your transaction history to see all debits and credits.
-
You can withdraw money once your Wallet balance is over £5.
-
Remember, YuTU deducts a 12.5% listing fee from your final sale price.
How do refunds and disputes work?
-
If an offer is cancelled before the job or item is marked as completed, any payment held in escrow is automatically refunded to the buyer’s card.
-
If payment has already been released, buyers can request a refund — but it is at the seller’s discretion to accept or decline.
-
If you cannot resolve an issue directly with the other user, YuTU’s team can help as a neutral mediator but always try to communicate and resolve things first. Please visit our ‘Dispute Resolution protocol’ available in the app before contacting us.
-
If needed, contact Support through the app (Settings > More info and support > Contact us) to open a dispute. YuTU aims to help resolve disputes fairly and quickly.
-
Always keep messages and agreements inside YuTU — it makes handling disputes easier and safer.
Connections & Safety
What are IRL Friends and Circle Connections?
-
IRL Friends: People you know in real life. They appear in your IRL Connections tab once you accept each other’s requests.
-
Circle Connections: People in the same Social Circles as you — helping you meet new people nearby with similar interests.
How can societies or groups use YuTU?
Societies and student groups can create Circles to:
-
Post and promote events, gigs, or meetups.
-
Share skills, time, or items exclusively with members.
-
Use Social posts to keep everyone informed and active.
-
Broadcast posts to reach the whole university when needed.
How can I stay safe on YuTU?
-
Meet in public places for swaps or first meet-ups.
-
Only accept IRL friend requests from people you know in real life.
-
Keep all payments inside YuTU — never send money through other apps and avoid cash payments.
-
Use the three dots on any post to report inappropriate content.
Reporting & Support
How do I report harassment or bullying?
If someone is harassing you or making you feel unsafe — whether through comments, messages, or posts — you can:
-
Block them to stop them from seeing your content or interacting with you. Blocking a user removes all their content and activity from view – past and future.
-
Pause them to hide their posts from your feed. Pausing a user removes all their future content and activity from view.
-
Report them using the three dots menu on their profile or message.
-
For serious cases, contact YuTU Support for extra help.
YuTU does not tolerate harassment or bullying in any form — your safety comes first.
Can I report inappropriate content?
Yes — tap the three dots on any post and select Report a Problem. Our team will review the report and take action to keep YuTU safe for everyone.
Where can I find YuTU’s Terms and Policies?
You can read all of YuTU’s Terms, Policies, and Guidelines — including our Community Guidelines, Child Safety Policy, and Dispute Policy — any time in Settings > More info or on our website at yutu.social.
How do I get help if something goes wrong?
If you cannot find your answer here, contact YuTU Support through the ‘Contact Us’ section in the app or on the website. Our team is ready to help with technical issues, disputes, or other questions.
